It’s Time To Move On From Todd

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are at a crossroads as the 2025 NFL season wraps up, and the conversation around head coach Todd Bowles’ future is heating up. Let’s look at the stats and the various opinions floating around.

Season Performance

The Buccaneers finished the 2025 regular season with a 7-9 record. This ranked them at 21st overall in the NFL and 11th in the NFC. Their defensive metrics were particularly concerning, sitting near the bottom of the league in points per game (28.4), total yards per game (368), and passing yards per game (257).

The Buccaneers’ season has been a tale of two halves. They started strong, but a late-season collapse saw them fall short of expectations. This led to blowing a lead in a weak NFC South division. Defensive struggles, particularly in crunch time, exposed the team’s vulnerabilities – blown coverages, timid play-calling, and an inability to finish winnable games.

Fan Sentiment

Recent polls across social media have shown that the majority of Buccaneers fans say Bowles should not return. This negative sentiment is echoed in many comment sections where fans are calling for his firing.

Media and Insider Views

Some insiders, like Adam Schefter, have noted that the Buccaneers do not want to make a change and are planning to stick with Bowles, even mentioning that a loss might be the catalyst for a shift. However, other analysts argue it’s hard to make a case for keeping him, pointing to his .500 record over four seasons and the team’s significant drop in performance after a 6-2 start.

Contract Situation

Bowles signed a three-year extension through 2028, but the buyout clause is substantial, and the organization may be hesitant to pay that tab.

What’s Next?

The Buccaneers’ playoff hopes are already gone. Whether the team decides to part ways with Bowles or not is unknown. With fan pressure mounting and the organization’s stance still uncertain, the offseason promises to be a pivotal time for the franchise.

The BR Rub

Legendary Head Coach Tony Dungy was fired for much less. I’m not saying Bowles doesn’t have some redeeming qualities, but he just isn’t an NFL Head Coach. His playoff record is one of the worst in team history. He’s never gotten out of the divisional round of the playoffs. And he seemed to have lost the locker room late in the season.

With a record just two games over .500 as Head Coach of the Bucs it’s time to move away from mediocrity and into the future.
