It's time to put some respect on Christian Watson's name

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has been downright special over the past few weeks of NFL football.

After starting off slow due to a combination of nagging injuries and a lack of chemistry with Aaron Rodgers, Watson has been an absolute revelation for the Packers.

Watson has been playing so well that he's making a strong case for being considered the NFL's offensive rookie of the year. With a few more strong weeks he very well could beat out the likes of Chris Olave (New Orleans Saints), Kenneth Walker III (Seattle Seahawks), and Garrett Wilson (New York Jets).

The most mind-blowing thing about Watson, though, is that even after his almost comically slow start, he's now putting up receiving numbers that don't just make him a top rookie, but one of the top wide receivers overall in the NFL.

Watson is currently tied for fifth amongst all NFL wide receivers with seven touchdowns this season. For comparison's sake, Davante Adams has 12 while Stefon Diggs checks in with 10. Rising superstar Justin Jefferson is one behind Watson with six touchdowns on the season.

The biggest question for the Packers this offseason was how they would replace Davante Adams and his otherwordly production as an unstoppable wide receiver. Watson didn't look like the answer when he dropped his first reception of the season -- which would have been a homerun touchdown, and he certainly didn't look the part as he caught only 10 balls over the next few months of the season.

Something changed in Watson against the Dallas Cowboys in early November, though. He went off for 107 yards and three touchdowns, and it was at that point that a flip switched in the young receiver. That plus Rodgers notching that switch and quickly developing trust in the 6-foot-5 rookie with 4.3 speed has created a monster who looks like he has the ability to terrorize NFL defenses for years to come.

Watson now has caught 25 catches this season for 401 yards and seven touchdowns. All seven of those touchdowns have come in Green Bay's last four games. Oh, he's also used his speed to rush in two touchdowns this season, including this beautiful run this past weekend against the Chicago Bears:

It's still early, but Watson is starting to look like a legitimate superstar and he very well could be the answer the Packers have been searching for at WR1.

It's time to put some respect on his name. He's the real deal.
