Jacksonville Jaguars Make Shocking Move Ahead of NFL Free Agency

The Jacksonville Jaguars are gearing up for NFL free agency to open next week. With that in mind, they are freeing up cap space.

As a lot of teams have done throughout the league, the Jaguars have started cutting players to make room.

According to a report from ESPN reporter Michael DiRocco , Jacksonville has made the shocking decision to release tight end Evan Engram.

Engram has been a big part of the offense over the last couple of years. His season was cut short to just nine games in 2024, but he had a career year in 2023 with the Jaguars.

During the 2023 season, Engram ended up catching 114 passes for 963 yards and four touchdowns. Those were career numbers in both receptions and yards.

Now, Jacksonville will enter the offseason with a need to add weapons for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars also traded wide receiver Christian Kirk to the AFC South division rival Houston Texans.

Looking around the league, Engram should not have trouble finding a new team. He has been a productive player throughout his career, although he has never quite reached his full potential outside of the 2023 season.

ESPN insider Adam Schefter has shared that Engram's release will save Jacksonville $5.98 million and there will be a dead money charge of $13.5 million.

Throughout his NFL career, Engram has made the Pro Bowl twice. He was not talked about a lot as a player likely to be cut, but the Jaguars have made the move and Engram will now hit free agency.
