Jacksonville Jaguars Meet With Star Playmaking Wide Receiver
SCOTT CLAUSE/USA TODAY Network / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Jacksonville Jaguars were among a select group of teams that held discussions with LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers a day before his pro day workout on Wednesday, as reported by Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.

Nabers is widely anticipated to be chosen within the top 10 picks, possibly even within the top five, in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft. The other five teams identified by Wolfe that engaged with Nabers—the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, New York Giants, Tennessee Titans, and New York Jets—all possess top 10 selections.

For the Jaguars, who currently hold the No. 17 pick in the first round, acquiring Nabers would likely necessitate a significant trade to climb higher in the draft order.

Such a scenario isn’t beyond reach for Jacksonville, which has demonstrated a proactive approach in transforming a roster that achieved back-to-back 9-8 seasons into a potential Super Bowl contender.

While the Jaguars made several acquisitions in free agency, including former Bills receiver Gabe Davis, they were unable to retain wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

This has created a void at the receiver position, and merely seeking a mid-round player may not adequately address the issue.

The Jaguars’ interest in Nabers isn’t the first sign that the team is considering a major upgrade to their receiving corps. Earlier in March, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network revealed that the Jaguars were exploring options involving Washington’s Rome Odunze, another receiver expected to be chosen within the top 10 selections.

Nabers concluded the 2023 season with impressive statistics, amassing 1,569 receiving yards and securing 14 touchdown receptions.

If the Jacksonville Jaguars were able to land Nabers, they would certainly make franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence very happy.
