Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence showcased his immense talent this afternoon on the road against the New Orleans Saints. After driving the Jaguars down the field, Lawrence fumbled the ball and looked very unathletic as he fell to the ground, and the ball found its way into the opposing team’s hands.

Lawrence recovered from that setback by tossing a passing touchdown on the next drive. He finished the day 8-of-10 for 76 yards and a touchdown through the air. Neither team emerged victorious as the game ended in a 17-17 tie. Will this preseason showing be a sign of things to come for the former No. 1 overall pick?

Jacksonville Jaguars Season Outlook

Things are seemingly shaping up in Duval County. The team hired Liam Coen to be their next head coach and drafted two-way sensation Travis Hunter No. 2 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though the young star recently sustained an injury, it is not expected to hamper him. Hunter is expected to play a great deal of snaps on both sides of the ball in 2025.

Speaking of injuries, Lawrence was limited to 10 games last season due to concussions and a shoulder injury. He did not play up to his full potential last year. The quarterback came into the league with massive hype. The hype reached a fever pitch when he led the Jaguars to a 27-0 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2022 NFL Playoffs. Over the past two seasons, he has been unable to reach those same heights. Jacksonville plays in arguably the league’s weakest division, the AFC South. They will look to take advantage of that to book a return trip to the postseason.

Final Thoughts

Lawrence and the Jaguars close out their preseason on the road against the Miami Dolphins next week. Jacksonville will then begin its regular season at home on September 7 against the Carolina Panthers. Today’s performance showed the talent that made Lawrence such a highly-touted prospect. Now, he must prove it once more on the gridiron. He is running out of time to be considered a franchise quarterback.
