GLENDALE – For the second week in a row, the Arizona Cardinals will look to backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett to lead the offense under center. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported on Saturday that usual starter Kyler Murray is still dealing with a nagging foot injury, as the two-time Pro Bowler was limited in practice all week, and will likely miss Sunday’s game vs. the Green Bay Packers.

Despite Murray missing his second straight game, Week 7 will be an important benchmark for the Cardinals and their future moving forward.

Murray out, Brissett in:

Against the Indianapolis Colts, Brissett led Arizona to its best offensive performance of the year. The offense had the most total yards and tied for the most points all season against a competent Indianapolis defense. The outing was so stellar that fans have begun to wonder if the career backup is the answer to the team’s lackluster offensive attack.

If Brissett can replicate his production on Sunday, uncomfortable conversations will need to be had surrounding who is to blame for the first five weeks of the inept offense.

Regardless of the result vs. the Packers, the question will be answered. Green Bay has arguably the best defense in the NFL, which means if Brissett can continue his hot streak, it makes Week 6 not a fluke leading to the blame being shifted towards Murray.

However, in the likely scenario that the Packers defense is able to stop the Cardinals offense, offensive coordinator Drew Petzing will return to the hot seat for the team’s struggles. There has been plenty of noise surrounding the job security of Petzing, and if last Sunday’s performance turns out to be a one-time occurrence, then he could be getting the boot for a 2-5 Arizona team.

The franchise’s season is in a downward spiral, but Week 7’s result is a blessing in disguise as it will finally provide a definitive answer of how the Cardinals will move forward in its future.
