Jacoby Brissett won't save the Baltimore Ravens

On Friday, November 6, the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals completed a trade, sending QB Jacoby Brissett from Arizona to Baltimore.

In exchange for Brissett and a fifth-round pick, the Cardinals will receive a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick, with Arizona also picking up quite a bit of the money owed to Brissett this season to facilitate the trade.

While the Ravens desperately needed a QB, it’s unfortunately too late to save this season, and Brissett won’t make a dent for a bad Ravens team in the basement of the AFC North this year.

Jacoby Brissett is not the answer

I’ll give the Ravens this: Brissett is undeniably an upgrade on third-string QB Joe Fagnano, who was absolutely brutal for the team in their Week 9 Thursday Night Football 33-10 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, even a slight upgrade at the QB position won’t save this Ravens team this season, especially with starting QB Lamar Jackson and backup QB Tyler Huntley both out.

Trading for Brissett, who was benched by the terrible Cardinals of all teams, is essentially a last-ditch effort by the Ravens to save their season, but it’s not going to be enough.

This season, the Ravens have allowed 236 points, the second-most points allowed in the NFL, just behind, ironically, the Cardinals at 238.

The Ravens have played one extra game, but even with that in mind, there are only four other teams that have allowed over 200 points this season.

That shows you how bad Baltimore’s defense is, and that’s the main reason I’m not high on this team despite Brissett. They simply cannot stop opponents from scoring.

Remember, football has three phases: offense, defense, and special teams.

So, even if Brissett helps Baltimore’s offense score more points, he can’t prevent points from being scored, and that’s why I ultimately see this trade as a ‘won’t matter’ move.
