Jaguars announce Travis Hunter news during minicamp

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the midst of rookie minicamp with Travis Hunter already making an impact. While some NFL teams were against the Heisman Trophy winner playing both ways, there were no complaints by Liam Coen and his staff.

Jacksonville traded up to get Hunter with the plan of featuring him on both sides of the ball. He became the highest drafted cornerback and second-highest drafted wide receiver in NFL history. Coen shared details on how they're going to make it happen. Hunter has worked exclusively with the offensive unit during his first two days of minicamp. Next up will be more reps with the defense.

“He’ll get integrated next week on the defensive side of the ball," Coen said. "We just kind of ended up making a decision from yesterday to today. We wanted to be able to clean up some of the things that we may have missed yesterday. Get extra reps on the offensive side of the ball, and next week he’ll start rolling on defense.”

Hunter is already diving deep into every aspect of being at the next level. He admitted to getting integrated with the defense. The first step for him started by breaking down plays in the film study. One of Hunter's biggest assets last season was the ability to understand how to play a bigger role.

Hunter finished his junior season with 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, setting new CU records for receiving touchdowns while finishing second in receptions and third in receiving yards. He set a CU record with eight 100-yard games and led CU in scoring with 96 points, 16 touchdowns (one rushing).

On defense, he had 36 tackles, four interceptions and 11 pass breakups, leading the FBS with 1,483 snaps which included 86.8% of offensive and 82.9% of defensive snaps for CU. Pro Football Focus graded him at 89.7 for receivers, the best in the Power 4 with 500-plus snaps, and he was one of only two defensive players to grade out over 90 percent in coverage at the Power Four level.
