The Jacksonville Jaguars are working on a contract to make Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen their next head coach.

On Wednesday, Coen signed a contract extension with Tampa Bay to remain the team's offensive coordinator. He joined the Bucs in February 2024 after one season as the Kentucky Wildcats' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2023.

Coen guided Tampa Bay to one of the top offenses in the NFL last season. The Bucs ranked third in passing yards and fourth in rushing yards. At 29.5 points scored per game, they were fourth-best in the NFL. Tampa Bay was third-best, behind only Baltimore and Detroit, with 399.5 yards gained per game.

On Wednesday, Jacksonville parted ways with general manager Trent Baalke after four seasons. On January 6, the Jags fired head coach Doug Pederson after three seasons.

On Thursday, the Jaguars announced they hired Tony Boselli to join the team's coaching search process. Boselli, Jacksonville's first Pro Football Hall of Famer, played for the Jaguars from 1995 to 2001.

To this point, Jacksonville had reportedly interviewed now Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, former Jets HC Robert Saleh, Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, Bills OC Joe Brady, Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, Ravens OC Todd Monken, Vikings DC Brian Flores and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo. They had also scheduled follow-up interviews with Saleh and Graham.

Jaguars owner Shad Khan reportedly fired Baalke after Coen withdrew from consideration for the Jacksonville job. With Baalke gone, Coen was apparently available again.
