Jaguars have big offseason focus for Trevor Lawrence

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence failed to take a significant step forward in his third NFL season, and the team is hoping to fix that with one major focus.

Jaguars coach Doug Pederson told reporters Monday that cutting down on turnovers will be the primary goal for Lawrence heading into 2023. Lawrence threw 14 interceptions and fumbled 12 times in 2023, a clear step back from what he did in 2022.

The Jaguars turned the ball over 30 times in 2023, and Lawrence was responsible for 21 of them. For a quarterback who only threw eight interceptions the year before, that is a huge issue. Half of his interceptions came in his final four games, all of which were losses, as the Jaguars collapsed and missed the playoffs after starting 8-3.

Lawrence was banged up down the stretch, in fairness to him, but that won’t fly as an excuse. The Jaguars need him to be better than he was in 2023, and Pederson’s comments are just reinforcing that.
