Jaguars Host WR Zay Jones

Now a nine-year veteran, Jones was a member of the Jaguars from 2022-23. They brought in the 2017 second-round pick on a three-year, $24MM deal after he divided his first six seasons between the Bills and the Raiders. The first year of the contract worked out well for Jacksonville, as Jones set career highs in catches (82) and yards (823) over 16 games. He also scored five touchdowns.

While battling PCL and femur injuries in 2023, Jones was unable to approach his production from the prior season. After he caught 34 passes for 321 yards and two scores in nine games, the Jaguars released him.

Jones resurfaced in Arizona, where he spent the past two seasons on a pair of one-year contracts. He served a five-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy to open his first season with the Cardinals. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder returned to catch just eight passes for 84 yards in 11 games, and his production was similarly modest during another truncated campaign in 2025. Before tearing his Achilles in early November, Jones totaled 12 receptions for 183 yards in eight games.

Jones is still under nine months removed from a serious injury, making it is unclear how close he is to returning. The Jaguars should have a good idea of how healthy Jones is after meeting with him, though there is no word on whether they are planning to sign the 31-year-old. The reigning AFC South champions boast Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington as their top receivers. Two-way player Travis Hunter will also factor in, though the second-year man will line up more frequently at cornerback than wideout in 2026.

Having lost Dyami Brown and Tim Patrick in free agency, the Jaguars are low on proven depth behind Thomas, Meyers, Washington and Hunter. Chandler Brayboy, Tim Jones, Ben Patterson, Austin Trammell, sixth-rounders rookies CJ Williams and Josh Cameron, and undrafted pickups Brady Boyd, Trebor Peña and Michael Wortham are the Jags’ only other receivers under contract. Tim Jones and Trammell, the lone players in the bunch with at least one reception in the pros, have combined for just 29 catches in 84 games. Zay Jones has racked up 307 grabs in 123 games.
