Jaguars LB sets lofty 'expectations' for the 2024 season

The Jaguars collapsed at the end of the 2023 season, losing five of their last six games and missing the playoffs.

However, third-year linebacker Devin Lloyd is confident it won't happen again. In fact, he thinks Jacksonville has the chance to take the league by storm in 2024, setting his sights high.

"Expectations never change. It's the Super Bowl every year," Lloyd said, via Jamal St. Cyr of WJXT4. "I think, obviously, last year, everyone talked about starting off 8-3 and finishing 1-5. For us, that's always going to be in the back of our minds, but we have nothing but the highest expectations."

Going from missing the playoffs to winning the Super Bowl would be quite the jump, but the Jaguars have been very active this offseason.

Jacksonville signed wide receiver Gabe Davis, center Mitch Morse and defensive lineman Arik Armstead, re-signed quarterback Trevor Lawrence and pass-rusher Josh Allen and drafted wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The team also made a big coaching change, naming Ryan Nielsen its new defensive coordinator.

That's why Lloyd said the Jaguars can at least say they tried something different if this season ends in disappointment once again.

"We've been working a little bit differently as far as not following the philosophy of expecting different results, doing the same thing. So I would expect different results this year," Lloyd added. "We've changed things up a little bit for the better. I'm really just excited. We've got all the right pieces in place."

Jacksonville may have all the right pieces, but now, it's about putting it all together.

Lloyd figures to be a big part of the defense once again after amassing 242 tackles, four forced fumbles, three interceptions and 15 passes defensed since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2022.

The 25-year-old is looking forward to figuring everything out in training camp later this month.

"OTAs went well," Lloyd concluded. "So really, you find out in training camp what type of team you are, and I look forward to getting out there and competing, competing with the guys, having a lot of fun and really just getting better."
