Jaguars reporter says what all Commanders fans already knew about Dyami Brown

Despite the wide receiver's encouraging strides down the stretch, the Washington Commanders didn't think Dyami Brown was worth another deal. However, the he is already making his presence felt elsewhere.

And one reporter has already bought into the false hope typically associated with Brown this time of year.

Brown's improved production came at a good time. Things looked bleak for the North Carolina graduate, who always promised much but delivered very little when it counted. That all changed over Washington's final few games and throughout the playoffs, which saw the Jacksonville Jaguars give the wideout a one-year deal that could be worth up to $10 million with incentives.

That's a lot of money for someone with 784 receiving yards and four touchdowns during his four seasons in the league so far. The Commanders would never pay that, opting to trade for Deebo Samuel Sr. and draft Jaylin Lane instead.

Former Commanders star Dyami Brown already giving Jaguars hope

Tony Wiggins from the Locked on Jaguars podcast likes what he sees from Brown. He also made a bold prediction that the former third-round selection would be a real difference-maker thanks to his deep-threat ability in head coach Liam Coen's offense.

That man can fly and take the top off the defense. (Dyami Brown) had the best year of his career in, like, the last four or five games of his career in Washington. One of the teams he did that against was a team coached on one side of the ball by (Liam Coen). Mark my words. There’s gonna be three or four games this year he’s gonna be their lead receiver, either in yards, or catches, or touchdowns, or all three.Tony Wiggins via Athlon Sports

Sound familiar? It should. These were the hopes and claims every offseason surrounding Brown when he was in Washington.

Brown always shone over early workouts and training camp. Unfortunately, he couldn't put it all together in a competitive setting until it was too late.

It'll be interesting to see if Brown's mini-resurgence last season can be sustained or even enhanced. A bigger price tag comes with raised expectations. He's got a shot at carving a role for himself, although No. 2 pick Travis Hunter and last year's first-rounder Brian Thomas Jr. are ahead of him in the pecking order for targets right now.

The Commanders rightfully moved on. They couldn't completely trust Brown and decided on a change in direction. Washington's wideout unit looks much stronger as a result, but injury worries to Noah Brown and Michael Gallup aren't exactly ideal with just weeks remaining until training camp.

Commanders fans already knew what Jacksonville is now finding out about Brown. Whether the player can turn these delusions of grandeur into a consistent football player remains to be seen.
