The Jacksonville Jaguars have undergone major change this offseason as new head coach Liam Coen and new general manager James Gladstone look to turn the franchise around.
The fifth overall pick in April’s draft will be the first big opportunity for this new regime to add a building block who can be a major contributor for years to come.
In his latest mock draft, NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah has the Jaguars making an intriguing addition: Georgia hybrid off-ball linebacker and edge-rusher Jalon Walker.
The vision would be to capitalize on the versatility that Walker provides. Jeremiah suggests Walker "could play off-ball linebacker on early downs and then rush off the edge when it’s time to hunt the quarterback.”
What would the Jaguars be getting if they draft Walker? He was the ultimate chess piece in Kirby Smart’s defense, which used his unique skill set well.
Walker’s disruptiveness as a pass-rusher was showcased in a variety of ways. He lined up on the edge, where he used his quickness to beat offensive tackles. He also did a good job of timing his blitzes through the A or B gap to create pressure.
Jalon Walker vs. Texas was absolutely monstrous on film:

Walker also displayed a good instinctual ability to read the pocket movements of a quarterback and adjust his pass rush to put himself in position for sacks.
As a run defender, Walker uses his good instincts and explosiveness coming downhill to blow up running plays. A reliable tackler, he can also be counted on to consistently bring down ball-carriers.
Jalon Walker is one of my absolute favourite players in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Defensive coordinators can also use him as a QB spy. His explosiveness and closing speed — along with how consistent of a tackler he is — make him well suited to execute those assignments at a high level.
Walker doesn’t have as much experience as a coverage defender as most off-ball linebackers do. However, he does have the tools to develop that area of his game as he possesses the closing speed, quickness and fluid movement ability to execute coverage assignments.
With newly hired defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile being a former linebackers coach, it’s a safe bet that he would be ecstatic to add someone like Walker.
Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham and Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan remain the most likely targets for Jacksonville at fifth overall. However, Walker would also make for an exciting addition as he has the potential to develop into a disruptive force in the NFL.
