Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence Opens Up About How Injuries Changed Him

Trevor Lawrence is going to be the key for the Jacksonville Jaguars to bounce back from a disappointing 4-13 season. It was, individually, the worst season for the quarterback, who was sidelined for seven games due to a shoulder injury.

The 25-year-old sustained a left shoulder injury against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Week 9 fixture last season. Lawrence returned to the squad two weeks later, but left the pitch after suffering a concussion in the second half.

The former Pro Bowler is back to action and sweated it out with the squad in the mandatory minicamp and OTAs. The Jaguars QB addressed the media alongside head coach Liam Coen following the first day of training camp.

Lawrence was asked to share some details about his recovery and how the healing period changed his mindset.

"Feel really good. It's the best I've felt in a long time physically," he said. "It sucks not playing, not being on the field. That's what I love to do. Love to play, and you put in all the work in the offseason and through camp, and then to have the season cut short isn't fun."

"So, it's given me a really great appreciation for the game and how much, you know, I love it and love being out here. Sometimes you take things for granted when you get to do it every day, and you're healthy, and you take whether you take your health for granted or playing the game for granted, when that's taken away for a little bit, you kind of reflect and take a step back."

Lawrence also talked about changes in his physical preparation and the way he manages his body post-surgery.

"A lot more, prehab, rehab, therapy stuff on my shoulder, obviously still, you know, after the surgery. But, I think through the injuries I've had, you learn things and you try to really stress those areas and put them in different positions and uncomfortable spots, and you train those things to avoid reinjuring the same thing," he said.

The Jaguars QB believes that one can learn a lot from injuries, especially the things that were overlooked earlier. It pushes the athlete and the team to take minute details into consideration and work on them.

Lawrence and the Jaguars clinched the AFC South after an underwhelming rookie season. They managed a similar record in the 2023 NFL season, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. However, they saw a steep decline last season.

Jacksonville went 2-8 with Lawrence on the gridiron and 2-5 without him. They have added more firepower to the squad, acquiring Eric Murray, Patrick Mekari, and Robert Hainsey. They traded up to draft Travis Hunter at No. 2 overall. Will this be enough for Lawrence and co. to make a postseason run?
