Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander has certainly reached superstar status. Alexander was voted a Second-Team All-Pro and a Pro-Bowler during the 2020 season. After a shoulder injury caused him to miss the majority of 2021, he fought back to play in the team's divisional round game against San Francisco. By the way, that was the first game in which Alexander, standout acquisition Rasul Douglas, and talented second-year defender Eric Stokes all played together. The San Francisco 49ers did not score a single offensive point. Alexander's effort to fight back to join his teammates and his elite capabilities earned him a new four-year, $84M extension.
The people of Madden are starting to realize how elite Alexander really is. The former Louisville Cardinal was rated as the second-best cornerback in the league with a rating of 94 right behind Los Angeles Rams star Jalen Ramsey (98). Alexander has 44 passes defensed in four career seasons, which averages out to 11 passes defensed per season. That is a very solid number. Alexander has elite ball skills and great footwork. His 4.3 speed allows him to not panic if a receiver gets behind him. Despite his smaller 5-10 frame, he always seems to play bigger than the receiver. The 25-year old is one of top defenders in the league and a cornerstone piece of the Green Bay defense moving forward into the future.
With Ramsey at No. 1 and Alexander at No. 2, Buffalo's Tre'Davious White (93) came in at No. 3, Philadelphia's Darius Slay (92) was No. 4, and Cleveland's Denzel Ward (92) rounded out the top five. The National Football League is filled with talented cornerbacks, but Alexander is near the top of that talented list. He is entering 2022 fully healthy and fresh off of a new contract extension.
