Jakobi Meyers ‘ready to play’ amidst Raiders trade request

Late in the offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders received sudden turbulence when wide receiver Jakobi Meyers requested a trade.

The decision came after the two sides could not agree on a contract extension. However, despite Meyers certainly drawing up trade interest, the Raiders have deemed him too important to their offense to move him right now. Therefore, barring any sudden developments or the Raiders receiving an offer that blows their socks off, Meyers is likely going to play out the final year of his deal.

That does not appear to be bothering Meyers, however, as he is squarely focused on the season ahead.

Meyers is hoping to use this season to land a big payday in March.

Speaking to the media about his situation on Wednesday, Meyers made it clear that what was going on between him and the Raiders was not weighing so heavily on his mind.

“I asked, they said no. That’s where that stopped,” Meyers joked. “I mean, I’m just going to keep doing my job until something shakes out either way, honestly. I don’t know which way it’s going to go, but I’ll be ready for whatever.”

It made sense why Meyers was hoping to cash in after a career 2024, where he posted his first 1,000-yard season with the Raiders.

However, Meyers knows better than to try and push too hard, especially now with the season underway. At this juncture, the best way to secure the contract Meyers desires is to build off last year’s success. If he does so, he will stand out even amidst a talented receiver crop in 2026’s free agent class.

“I’m ready to go if you need me to go; I’m ready to play if you need me to play,” Meyers said.

Starting on Sunday with the New England Patriots, Meyers is ready to bet on himself with this upcoming campaign.
