The Las Vegas Raiders have officially moved on from Jakorian Bennett.
On Monday, multiple sources reported that the Raiders have traded the third-year cornerback to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV.
Bennett was once seen as an ascending talent on the Raiders defense. Last season, Bennett recorded 26 tackles and a career-high eight pass deflections. Even as the team bolstered their secondary, it was expected that the Maryland product would factor into the equation somehow.
However, Bennett did not fit the usual physical profile that new head coach Pete Carroll prefers in his defensive backs, and players like Eric Stokes, Decamerion Richardson and third-round rookie Darien Porter passed him up on the depth chart.
Bennett being traded indicates that the Raiders are confident in the cornerbacks they have on the roster, while Booker adds depth to the defensive line after the team released Christian Wilkins.
A fifth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2022, Booker has spent the last two seasons with the Eagles. Featuring in Philadelphia’s defensive line rotation, Booker appeared in all 17 games for the Eagles last season. He recorded 18 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack as the Eagles won the Super Bowl.
It was clear that Bennett was no longer a fit on the Raiders, but they will now have to see if they made a mistake by letting him go.
