Jalen Hurts' comment after last year's playoff loss is the same thing Michael Jordan said the year before winning his first NBA title

In the summer of 1990, Chicago Bulls guard Michael Jordan walked off the court at 27 years old after losing to the Detroit Pistons in the Eastern Conference Finals.

After six seasons in the NBA, Jordan still didn't have the elusive NBA Championship that he deeply coveted.

That, of course, changed the following season when Jordan and the Bulls exacted revenge on the Pistons via a sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Chicago would go on to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games to win the 1991 NBA Championship.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is in a similar spot heading into Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Hurts, who is in his fifth season in the NFL, won't turn 27 until August, but he's facing a similar scenario that Jordan faced in 1991 after coming up short the previous season.

After the Bulls lost to the Pistons in 1990, Jordan was interviewed on the court by CBS Sports' Pat O'Brien.

"All you can do is wish them good luck," said Jordan when asked what he had to say to the Pistons. "We fought hard. They were the better team. And we want to be where they are, but we still gotta wait our turn. We're still trying to improve our team. They were the better team and they played better today."

The Eagles were knocked out of the playoffs last season by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.

After the loss, Hurts made almost the exact same statement to reporters that Jordan made to O'Brien 34 years earlier.

"I’m very appreciative of everything we’ve been through and fought through," said Hurts after the loss to the Bucs. "Obviously, we took a turn there and things didn’t end the way we wanted. But it’s simply not our turn. It’s not our turn. We got a taste of it last year winning the conference championship and having an opportunity to play in our Super Bowl, and it wasn’t our turn then."

It's not a carbon copy, but the comments from Hurts and Jordan after coming up short in their quest for their first championship are strikingly similar.

Maybe Hurts will get his revenge on the Chiefs (the team that beat the Eagles two years ago in the Super Bowl) on Sunday in Super Bowl LIX and finally win his first championship.

If so, it'll be appropriate that Hurts, perhaps inadvertently, channeled Jordan a year ago after losing to the Bucs.

After all, this is the quarterback that once did an interview at his locker while wearing a Kobe Bryant shirt with a Michael Jordan poster hanging behind him.
