Last week was not a great week overall for the Philadelphia Eagles, following the struggles during the Thursday joint practice with the Cleveland Browns and the ugly 22-13 preseason loss on Saturday. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts put all that behind him and is back on track.
Bleeding Green Nation Eagles reporter Brandon Lee Gowton chronicled the great day of practice from Hurts. Gowton went through multiple plays Hurts made, which had everyone excited at camp.
"Hurts rebounded well from last week's struggles against the Cleveland Browns; this was one of his strongest practices of the summer."
"Hurts made multiple tight window completions over the middle to Dallas Goedert. He found a crossing Jahan Dotson in stride with Quinyon Mitchell trailing. He hit Johnny Wilson along the left sideline for first down yardage. Hurts hit DeVonta Smith to beat Cooper DeJean on two different reps, one for a succesfully two-point conversion. Hurts avoided pressure and rolled left to find Kylen Granson in the end zone on a scramble drill. Hurts found Darius Cooper in a soft spot for the defense along the right sideline for another completion.
Good to see Hurts spreading the ball around to multiple targets instead of really just locking in on one player. One would think that kind of distribution works towards keeping defenses more honest."
Last week was an odd week of weird missed assignments and mistakes made by the Eagles. They struggled to get into sync in the passing game and the offense in general was being stonewalled by the Browns.
Hurts getting back on track is precisely what is needed, especially since the starters have not played on the field yet during the preseason. There are some questions on whether they will play at all, but last week might have been a good indication that a drive or two in Week 3 of the preseason might be needed.
This is at least a good start for the Eagles as they attempt to build momentum heading into their final preseason matchup against the New York Jets on Friday. Eagles fans wouldn't mind seeing Hurts out there for a little bit as a dress rehearsal for the Eagles' Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys in Lincoln Financial Field.
Hurts and the offense hopes to keep the good times rolling at training camp the rest of the week.
