After entering the 2025 season with Super Bowl-champion expectations, the Philadelphia Eagles instead endured a disappointing campaign marked by offensive inconsistency and a sharp drop from contender to early playoff exit. Philadelphia finished 11-6 and fell in the wild card Round to the San Francisco 49ers, leaving questions about how to get back to the top of the NFC.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts still played a significant role, throwing for 3,224 yards with a 25-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and adding 421 rushing yards and eight TDs on the ground. But the offense struggled to consistently produce, ranking 19th in scoring at 22.3 points per game under first-year offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo before he was fired mid-January.
Hurts battled through lapses and turnovers at times, and with key offensive line injuries and mixed passing efficiency, the unit as a whole failed to live up to its championship-defending billing.
As the Eagles look to aggressively improve its roster, a major subplot has been the future of tight end Dallas Goedert, one of Hurts’ most reliable weapons. Goedert posted 60 receptions for 591 yards and a team-leading 11 touchdowns in 15 games in 2025, serving as a key red-zone target and consistent part of the Eagles’ passing game.
With his contract situation entering free agency, the Eagles entered the offseason knowing they faced the risk of losing Goedert.
On Monday, NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry reported that Goedert “will definitely be moving on” from Philadelphia, which would bring an end to his eight-year stint with the franchise.
With Goedert potentially set to depart, Philadelphia has reportedly turned its attention to another veteran tight end — David Njoku, according to 94 WIP’ Eagles reporter Elliot Shorr-Parks. The 29-year-old, a first-round pick in 2017 out of Miami, has spent his career with the Cleveland Browns and is entering free agency after nine seasons.
The Eagles have interest in David Njoku, per league sources

Would be a signing that gives them one of the best athletes in the league at the position and finally gives Njoku an elite, consistent QB to play with for the first time in his career
Something to keep an eye on

Though his 2025 numbers dipped to 33 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns while battling injuries, Njoku’s athleticism, size and versatility could make him an intriguing fit for Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, especially if he can return to earlier form.
As the Eagles prepare for the start of the new league year on March 11, Hurts and the organization will be hoping reinforcements, whether through signings like Njoku or additions in the draft can help Philly rebound and get back to title contention.
