Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been one of the most criticized players at his position since he took over as the full-time starter in 2021. Many people believe that he is limited as a passer and aided greatly by an elite supporting cast — like wide receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Saquon Barkley — and a great offensive line.
Hurts did have another star receiver in A.J. Brown before he was traded to the New England Patriots earlier this offseason. The former teammates saw each other again on Wednesday as their teams did battle in a joint practice, but it was the wideout who came out victorious.
The Patriots’ starting offense clicked for nearly the entire session, while the same can’t be said for the Eagles. Smith and fellow wide receiver Makai Lemon did not participate during the drills between the two teams, which was a tough situation for the offense to overcome.
Hurts did have a couple of notable throws throughout the session, but they didn’t outweigh the three interceptions that he threw, according to Henry McKenna of FOX Sports.
Tough 7x7 period for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense against the Patriots D. I counted three interceptions on two different periods.

Patriots safety Craig Woodson had two interceptions. Marcus Jones had another that would have been a pick-six.
The day gets worse for Hurts when factoring in that cornerback Christian Gonzalez didn’t practice. New England has a good secondary even without the star defensive back, but three interceptions are concerning no matter who they’re thrown against.
To be fair, the Eagles are currently installing a new offense, and that process gets convoluted when the two top receivers aren’t there to learn. There are just a bunch of moving parts with Philadelphia’s offense right now that are making it difficult for Hurts to perform at a higher level.
The practice was a clear loss for Hurts and the Eagles’ offense, but the good thing for them is that the two teams will do the same thing tomorrow. They’ll still have a chance to redeem themselves and get things rolling in the right direction before playing the Patriots again this weekend in the preseason.
