Jalen Hurts uses famous line from a WWII general when talking about ‘very challenging’ circumstances from Eagles training camp

It's been feeling like an oven in the City of Philadelphia.

On Tuesday, temperatures hit a high of 97 degrees, though the humidity made it feel like 105.

That is definitely not ideal for NFL training camp, especially when the pads come on.

With it being so hot this week, the Philadelphia Eagles moved their first padded practice up to 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday to stay a bit cooler.

While some players might have complained about the excessive heat, quarterback Jalen Hurts used it as motivation and embraced the challenge.

When asked by reporters about the intense conditions, Hurts responded with a quote famously attributed to World War II U.S. General George S. Patton Jr.

"Overall, 'fatigue makes cowards us all,'" Hurts said.

Legendary NFL head coach Vince Lombardi was also notorious for using that quote, which simply means that everyone feels tough until the fatigue kicks in. However, in Hurts's mind, pushing through that exhaustion is what separates the good from the great.

"These last two days have been very challenging from a heat standpoint," Hurts continued. "So, everybody collectively as a group is just continuing to push through those things. Control what you can. I think this is a good test and measure of where we are right now. And where we desire to go."

Despite the heat, Hurts was pleased with what he saw from his teammates after the first padded practice.

"We ran the ball well," Hurts said. "Our defense played very well. Connected on some in the passing game. Ultimately, it's just great competition. Talk about building that foundation for our team and establishing the temperament of the team. Coming out here and competing every day. Getting good competition and good work."

With the dog days of summer still in full swing, it doesn't look like the weather will be cooling down anytime soon. But at least Hurts will be making the most of the conditions, no matter what.
