The Seattle Seahawks used their final preseason game of the 2025 season to get a long look at third round pick and former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Milroe, who Seattle took No. 92 overall in the 2025 draft, started on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers - hoping to take advantage of the opportunity in a quest to unseat Drew Lock as Seattle's backup quarterback behind veteran Sam Darnold.

Despite a rough start to the game, Milroe finally put together a rhythmic drive early in the fourth quarter, culminating in an 18-yard touchdown pass to Cody White. It was Milroe's first passing touchdown of the preseason.

Milroe was a bit of a surprise pick by the Seahawks in the third round, as he's very different stylistically than the Darnold and Lock, Seattle's top two quarterbacks on the depth chart.

Milroe is considered very raw as a passer coming out of Alabama, but during the pre-draft process he was frequently lauded as one of the best running quarterbacks anyone had ever seen. Milroe rushed for 20 touchdowns in his final season with the Crimson Tide, joining Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Johnny Manziel as the only SEC quarterbacks to ever do so.

"He's a unique, special athlete, special young man," Seahawks general manager John Schneider said earlier this offseason, via ESPN. "We're going to develop him as a quarterback. But with that, he can add something special as we go."

Coming into Saturday's start against Green Bay, Milroe had completed 9-of-15 passes for 107 yards in the preseason, while rushing eight times for 56 yards. On the drive that resulted in his first career passing touchdown, Milroe had a designed run that netted 15 yards, showcasing how his dual-threat ability could make him an asset for the Seahawks in specific packages - even if he's not the every down quarterback.

Milroe could end up unseating Lock and making the 53-man roster out of camp, but more likely he ends up on the practice squad while he develops as a passer. The story won't go the way it did for Seattle a little over a decade ago when another surprising third round pick, Russell Wilson, turned heads in the preseason and took the starting job under center right away - leading Seattle to a Super Bowl one year later.

Still, Milroe's elite athleticism could make him a true weapon for the Seahawks in due time.
