Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Los Angeles Rams are reportedly "not close" to reaching an agreement for an extension but there's not too much concern from either side as they insist it's "still early."
The Rams paid a hefty price for Ramsey last season, sending two first-round picks and a fourth-round pick to the Jaguars in exchange for the All-Pro corner. Given the high amount they gave up, locking up Ramsey is believed to be a priority for the team.
It is believed that Ramsey could get up to $20 million per year on a new deal, which would easily make him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history. Ramsey is currently set to make $13.7 million this season, as the Rams picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie contract.
While Ramsey has made it clear he wants a long-term deal, he also has not commented on the progress of the negotiations, saying he would rather leave that to his agent so that he can fully focus on football. Ramsey reported to training camp on time and when asked, said he never considered holding out or showing up but not participating.
"The Rams know where I stand, and I think that's all that matters at the end of the day," Ramsey said. "It'll get handled. They've been in contact with my agent, they're on the same page as my agent."
Since being drafted by the Jaguars in the first round of the 2016 draft, Ramsey has proven himself to be one of the elite cornerbacks in the NFL, earning 3 consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl.
