The Los Angeles Rams roster for the 2025 season is largely set, but they are always looking to upgrade at certain positions if the opportunity presents itself.

L.A. emerged as a potential landing spot for All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who was granted permission to seek a trade from the Miami Dolphins in April.

The Rams are a logical suitor for Ramsey given their familiarity with him and need at cornerback. However, any deal for the 30-year-old had been put on hold until June 1, when the Dolphins could lower his dead cap charge.

Despite the Rams’ reported interest though, there will be no reunion as Ramsey is headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers as part of a blockbuster deal, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:

Ramsey had a productive stint with the Rams from 2019-22 that saw him record 10 interceptions, 47 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, two sacks and 242 tackles in 57 games. He lived up to his reputation as a lockdown corner as he earned three Pro Bowl selections and helped them win Super Bowl LVI.

The Rams now have a revamped secondary that includes Quentin Lake, Kam Curl, Darious Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon, among others. The thought was that they could use one more starting caliber cornerback like Ramsey, but it never came to fruition. It will be interesting to see if they now just stick with what they have in-house or pursue some of the other corners left on the free agent market.

Rams wanted Jalen Ramsey to return

Quentin Lake previously expressed his hope that the Rams would work out a deal to bring back Jalen Ramsey, and head coach Sean McVay also hinted at the possibility.

“He’s a great player. We know him very well. We know him intimately. You would certainly never rule out the possibility of that, but like Les articulated, our focus and concentration are on this week’s upcoming draft,” McVay said earlier this year.

“There are a lot of layers that would need to be worked out with a player of his magnitude and some of the different things that accompany that, but you would never eliminate the possibility of adding a total stud and a guy that can do a lot of different things, like he’s continued to do. Like he did here, like he did in Jacksonville and like he’s done over the last couple of years in Miami.”
