Joe Burrow is popping off, ladies and gentlemen! With the Cincinnati Bengals' backs against the wall, the former first-overall pick delivered against the Denver Broncos. Burrow's heroics paved the way for a 30-24 victory, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
It was performance like no other for Burrow, who threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. The Bengals quarterback also rushed for a touchdown on a QB sneak. After the game, Burrow's long-time teammate Ja'Marr Chase was hyped up. Replying to a video of Burrow's celebration after the game, the Bengals WR referenced Burrow's Joe Shiesty nickname.
"POP IT SHIEST," Chase said on X.
Burrow played superbly against the Broncos with their playoff lives on the line. The Bengals needed to win their last two games to have a chance at making the playoffs. You couldn't have asked for a better game from the former LSU quarterback, who was visibly fired up after the game.
Chase and Tee Higgins carried most of the passing load for the Bengals. Chase caught nine passes for 102 yards, although he never saw the endzone. All three passing touchdowns went to Higgins, who had 11 catches for 132 yards. Mike Gesicki and Andrei Iosivas combined for 140 yards on 13 combined catches.
The Bengals are not quite out of the woods yet. The Bengals still need the Broncos to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs in their final game. Both the Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts also need to lose one of their last two games for Cincinnati to make the postseason.
As if that wasn't hard enough, the Bengals would need to beat a playoff-bound Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18 to seal their playoff chances. Cincinnati still has a slim chance despite this dreadful season, but they'll need the MVP play of Burrow and lady luck on their side to save this campaign.
