In the often unpredictable football world, few things can be taken as a guarantee. One of them is that, for better or worse, Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston is going to put on a show.
From wacky pre-game speeches to some of the sport’s most incomprehensible throws, Winston is an agent of chaos, and one that has earned him heavy fanfare around the league.
Freed from the burden of franchise quarterback expectations, Winston has become a side character for teams in need of a backup passer and a frequent social media sensation.
His reputation has landed a new gig before free agency – being a digital correspondent for FOX’s Super Bowl festivities. Winston reacted to FOX’s surprising Super Bowl announcement on social media.
“See y’all in NOLA!” he posted.
According to Front Office Sports, Winston will be asked to “create video content showcasing his favorite NOLA restaurants and entertainment spots.”
Winston has some experience in the Big Easy. He spent four years with the New Orleans Saints after his rookie contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He largely held down the backup role, going 5-2 in 2021.
Winston’s famous pregame speeches originated in New Orleans – as a visitor – but he ultimately captured the approval of the fanbase before signing a one-year deal with the Browns. In relief of Deshaun Watson, Winston went 2-5 while completing 61.1 percent of his passes and throwing 13 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.
During that time, he went viral for his comments regarding a Thursday Night Football snow and, later, for asking that he be “delivered from pick-sixes.”
With a knack for catching the spotlight and a familiarity with the area, Winston is an easy fit for a FOX broadcast that is already featuring uncharted territory with color commentator Tom Brady, who is in his first season in the booth.
Fans can tune in to watch the Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 9.
