James Bradberry, DeVonta Smith among players not present at Eagles' OTAs
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles kicked off OTAs (organized team activities) this week, aka Phase three of the offseason program.

No live contact is permitted during this phase, however, 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are allowed.

These workouts and practices are voluntary for NFL veterans.

Some Eagles vets did not participate in Wednesday's practice, including cornerback James Bradberry, offensive lineman Lane Johnson, wide receiver DeVonta Smith, defensive end Josh Sweat, and cornerback Kelee Ringo.

Of the names above, Bradberry and Ringo stick out the most since this offseason will be a crucial one for the cornerback room.

The Eagles currently have 14 cornerbacks on their roster and Bradberry is rumored to be on the hot seat since the Eagles draft two rookie corners, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, in the first and second rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Bradberry, who will be 31 at the start of next season, isn't the same young corner he once was and that became blatantly clear last season. He allowed an NFL-high 11 touchdown passes in 2023 and had one of the worst defensive passer ratings among all cornerbacks in the league.

With a crowded cornerback room, there's simply no reason for the Eagles to keep him on the roster unless the Eagles want to avoid $15 million in dead cap money. But they can avoid that by trading him and we know Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is constantly working the phones.

As for Ringo, he had a promising rookie season, playing in all 17 games with four starts where he logged one interception, a sack, 21 tackles and two pass breakups.

Ringo told reporters back in February that he hopes to have a larger role in Year 2, which could be harder for him to do given the Eagles' offseason additions.

But that just means Ringo will have to work extra hard, though missing OTAs isn't a good start.
