Jameson Williams proved he can still put up numbers in loss vs. Chiefs

There isn't much good that could be drawn from the Detroit Lions' embarrassing 30-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wide receiver Jameson Williams' performance was definitely a silver lining, even if it was a minor victory in the grand scheme of things.

Despite the Lions winning in previous weeks, Williams has been fairly non-existent on the box score. Williams has totaled five receptions on 12 targets for 92 yards in the past three weeks combined. Williams also has two rushing attempts for -2 yards. Williams did not record a touchdown during this stretch.

Much of Williams' impact doesn't find its way to the box score, as the young WR has made key blocks on big plays. Just the kind of thing head coach Dan Campbell loves, and Williams has always held the "no block, no rock" mentality.

On Sunday, Williams finally got the "rock."

Jameson Williams leads the way for Lions pass catchers

Williams was back to his big-play ways on Sunday, hauling in six receptions on seven targets for 66 yards. His most impressive catch was his 22-yard TD off a laser pass from quarterback Jared Goff. Williams worked his way to the endzone to go up 10-6. According to the Lions PR X account, 11 of Williams' 12 career TD receptions have been for over 20 yards.

It's ironic, given the reemergence of Williams coincided with a subdued Lions' offense. The Lions were clean as far as turnovers go and had numerous deep drives. However, the Chiefs did what the Lions' defense couldn't: come up with stops at key moments and show fight on the field, at least.

Tight end Sam LaPorta was the recipient of the other Lions' TD, making a spectacular catch at the back of the endzone in the fourth quarter to make it a three-point game. LaPorta had five receptions on six targets for 55, continuing his streak of great games.

WR Amon-Ra St. Brown's performance did leave a lot to be desired. He had a quiet first half and dropped a pass on fourth down. He came alive toward the end of the game, but only amassed 45 yards on nine receptions.

Campbell and the Lions will have a lot to look over this week heading into an equally frightening primetime game against QB Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Williams has always come up big against the Buccaneers, including his first career TD reception. If the Lions' offense wants to keep up with Mayfield, Williams has made his case to be that answer.
