The Detroit Lions had a really strong season in 2024. They went 15-2 and won their second straight NFC North championship. It all ended with a big 31-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings.
Thanks to Netflix's new season of Quarterback featuring Jared Goff, we got to see the end of that game from the sideline. As the clock hit 0:00, Lions punter Jack Fox went up to Goff and said this:
"Free beer for a year."
What was that all about? Now we know. At the beginning of the 2024 season, Goff bet Fox that if he could lead the league in net punting by the end of the season, he would buy him Bud Light for the entire year.
That's exactly what happened. At the end of the season, Fox finished with 46.2 net yards per punt, and now he is a man who is entitled to free Bud Light for quite a while now. He's got five months of free beer left at this point. We'll have to ask him if Goff kept up his end of the bet when camp opens up to media in a couple of weeks.
We did some math because we had time to do it. If Goff bought Fox a six-pack of Bud Light every week for a year, the cost would come out to $421.20. Not bad at all. The fun thing is that Fox also got $31.20 out of it if he returned all of those bottles. I am a nerd.
