You just never know, right? A few years ago, Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay would go out to a local football field and invite high school players to come out and work with him.
He worked with players like Saints receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, Jets corner Sauce Gardner, Jags corner Jourdan Lewis, and current Lions safety Avonte Maddox.
You never know when a current player might be helping to grow the game of a player who could someday play for the team the trainer is playing for.
Over the weekend, Lions quarterback Jared Goff went back to his stomping grounds at Marin Catholic High School in Marin, California, to help run a quarterback camp with his quarterback guru pals from 3DQB. These are the guys who Goff has been training with every summer.
It's hard to know what players showed up to this, but the camp was more geared towards sixth grade and up. One thing we know about California right now is that it has some of the best high school quarterbacks in the nation.
There's Ryder Lyons from Folsom, who plans to go to BYU, Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park, who is committed to Michigan, Oscar Rios from Downey, who is undecided, Troy Huhn from Mission Hills, who is headed to Penn State, and the really interesting one, Brady Palmer from San Diegio who is committed to play at Goff's Alma mater, Cal.
We don't know if any of these guys were there, but even if they weren't, there were more than likely some kids who are soon to be in the same shoes those guys are currently in. Young players who are honing their game en route to getting a college opportunity before heading to the NFL.
Maybe some day we'll be talking about how the Lions quarterback learned a lot from Goff that one weekend in June of 2025.
