'Tis the season for NFL quarterbacks to splurge on their offensive linemen.
This month, we've seen San Francisco 49ers signal caller Brock Purdy gift his O-line new Toyotas and Cincinnati Bengals star Joe Burrow purchase authentic Japanese katana swords for his protectors. Burrow said the Bengals' linemen originally wanted guns, but he didn't feel comfortable doing that so he opted for another weapon.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff kept his Christmas gifts simple, but effective. On Thursday, Goff told reporters he bough a YETI package for his linemen featuring some high-quality meat.
"It's hard when you got guys giving out Toyota trucks to try and keep up with that but I got them a nice YETI package with a ton of Wagyu, steaks and beef. I hope they like it," Goff said, via Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman.
We're going to guess that a bunch of offensive linemen will be more than okay with that gift, Jared.
Goff's decision to reveal his Christmas purchases comes two days after he hinted at a simpler haul and joked that he was going to talk to Purdy about his extravagant buying.
“I got my guys (a) nice package of stuff. We’ll keep it in house. But, it’s nice, (and) I hope they’re happy with it,” Goff said during an appearance on “Karsch and Anderson” on 97.1 The Ticket. “Yeah, I saw what Purdy did, too, with the trucks, and I thought that was kind of like, ‘Come on, man.’ I might say something to him next week, like, ‘You’ve got to relax with that. I know you’ve got the Toyota deal, but you’re buying everyone $50,000 cars, we’ve got issues.’
Goff and Purdy will see each other Monday night when the Lions travel to California to take on the 49ers in primetime. At 13-2, Detroit is battling to hold off the 13-2 Vikings and 12-3 Eagles for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN.
