Jason Kelce Deems Team USA's Soccer Tradition a Sign of 'Loser Mentality'

As the U.S. Men's National Team prepares for the upcoming Gold Cup, it has been the subject of recent scrutiny.

Fans have been questioning where the spark from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been, as the team had a lackluster showing during the Copa America last June that saw them fail to escape group play. Additionally, they lost two home games in the Concacaf Nations League to Panama and Canada.

While fans aren't thrilled with the performance on the pitch, former NFL star Jason Kelce recently aired another gripe with the team on a recent episode of "New Heights."

When discussing the World Cup with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, the Super Bowl champion center expressed his pleasure with the team's fans. The elder Kelce revealed his disdain for the "I believe" chant, which has been a staple for fans who support the U.S. national team.

"I do remember distinctly thinking how much better like watching soccer Brazilians were than like Americans," Kelce said. "You go to the World Cup as an American and they're like, 'I believe that we can win, I believe that we can win.' It's like man what the (expletive) are we here for? That is the (expletive) most loser mentality chant I have ever heard in my life."

Kelce, known for being a bit blunt and intense, offered a modification to the chant as well. One that he feels displays that the fans have more confidence in their team.

"We came here to (expletive) you guys," Kelce said. "That's what the mentality needs to be. Not like 'I think that I can win'...It needs to be 'I believe that we can (expletive) you up."

Whether or not his suggestion is appropriate is a discussion for another day, but it certainly brings a new sense of intensity. Something Kelce is used to considering, Philadelphia fans are known for being one of the more ruthless fanbases in sports.
