Life has a funny way of coming full circle on particular situations. The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in that case.
One of the franchise's best players, center Jason Kelce, was a dominant force over the last decade-plus, retiring after the 2023 season. Kelce has seven Pro Bowls and six AP first-team All-Pro selections to his name. These are accomplishments that only a future Hall of Famer would have.
Kelce was also one of the best centers of all time as he took care of business protecting his quarterbacks. Not many defenders got past him. Several teams couldn't get the job done against him. One team in particular struggled more than others, and it will bring a smile to Eagles fans' faces.
PFF writer Dalton Wasserman reviewed all 32 NFL teams and identified the opponent's player with the highest grade against them since 2020. Kelce was selected as an "Achilles' heel" for two teams.
One was the Kansas City Chiefs, which is a story in itself since it's against his brother, Travis Kelce's, team. The other, though, has all the irony in the world to it: the Green Bay Packers.
"Kelce faced Green Bay twice in his final four seasons in the NFL and played very well both times. He earned a 92.9 PFF overall grade across those two matchups, highlighted by his 92.1 PFF run-blocking grade. He left quite an impression in his final game against the Packers in 2022 when he recorded a 93.0 PFF overall grade — the second-best single-game grade of his career."
Philadelphia has grown to dislike Green Bay after the role they played in submitting proposals to ban the Tush Push from the NFL twice at the league's owners meetings. Two consecutive times, they did not get enough votes to pass the proposal.
The reason it didn't happen the second time last month? Green Bay's Achilles' heel Kelce. After presenting to the owners and delivering a speech to quash the notion of the Tush Push, which led to his retirement, Kelce was hailed as a hero in Philadelphia for saving the nearly automatic short quarterback run.
Green Bay doesn't like to be the poster team for the Tush Push, but their names are the biggest on the proposal, so the Packers have to take the hits. Despite only playing Kelce twice since 2020, it appears that Kelce got another win against them, and it's glorious.
