Jason Kelce weighs in on Eagles' new coaching hires
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles made some pretty drastic changes to their coaching staff last week by hiring defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to replace Sean Desai and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as Brian Johnson's replacement.

Eagles' star center Jason Kelce was asked by his brother, Travis Kelce, what he thinks of the team's new hires on the latest "New Heights" podcast

Jason first shared his thoughts on Moore, whom he has yet to meet, but played against several times during Moore's stint with the Cowboys.

"I was surprised when he got fired the one year in Dallas," Jason said. "Felt like their offense [was pretty good]. Even two years before he was being touted as a head coaching candidate. One of the top ones up there. He's been one of the brightest minds for young offensive coaches for some time now. ... Looking back ourselves we realized we could have potentially been a bit more creative I guess offensively and I think Kellen will bring a lot of that."

Jason has also played again Fangio's defense, which has been regarded as one of the best in the leagues since Kelce was drafted in 2011.

"His reputation proceeds itself," Jason said. "He's been one of the best coordinators in the NFL since I've been in it. I think every stop he's been those defenses have been pretty darn successful. ... I think everywhere he's been he's been one of the best out there with the defensive coaches. He's revolutionized the game to a certain extent. There's a lot of people talking about the Fangio defense. How more and more coordinators have taken from it. There's never a more sign of respect than imitation. Whenever someone's trying to do what you're doing well that speaks to how good you are at it. "

The Eagles had a devastating 2023 late-season collapse following a 10-1 start to the year. Many believed Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni wouldn't be with the team for 2024, but that wasn't the case.

While Sirianni is still the Eagles head coach, his role will be limited when it comes to calling plays.

"To me, I look at this as hey, I think Kellen Moore's a pretty bright guy," Kelce said. "All I know now is I know we have a great coach in Nick Sirianni. We just got a great defensive coordinator, defensive mind in Vic Fangio and we got a great offensive mind in Kellen Moore who just got hired. In my opinion, we're adding more talented individuals to continue to be a part of the staff, so whoever is calling plays, I know that we get better having Kellen Moore in the building because I think he's a great mind and has proven that over the last five years."

Jason did not say whether or not these fresh hires change his thoughts on potential retirement, but his stamp of approval speaks volumes.
