With their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Ohio State's Josh Simmons hoping that he could fill the void at left tackle for the foreseeable future. Left tackle has been a difficult position for the Chiefs to find consistency at since Orlando Brown Jr. took off for Cincinnati so Chiefs fans are really hoping that Simmons is worthy of the first-round hype.
One person who seems convinced that Simmons is the real deal is former Philadelphia Eagles center and Travis Kelce's brother Jason Kelce. The elder Kelce has been vocal about how much he likes Simmons as a prospect and he continued to discuss that hype on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast where he had Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy on.
Kelce and Nagy talked about Simmons and the former NFL center couldn't help but offer some massive praise for the Chiefs' latest first-round draft pick.
""It was like flashes of like Jason Peters, Trent Williams movement and bending and redirecting," Kelce said to Nagy.
Simmons hasn't taken a single snap yet in the NFL but Kelce has continued to beat the drum for what kind of player he could be. If there's someone whose word we can trust when it comes to offensive linemen, Jason Kelce feels like a pretty good source of information given the Hall of Fame career he put together in Philadelphia.
Simmons does have his work cut out for him though, of course. He'll have to battle with free-agent addition Jaylon Moore for the starting left tackle job and he's also coming off an injury that sidelined him for the majority of Ohio State's National Championship season in 2024.
The good news here though is that if Simmons ends up being as good as Kelce is saying he is, the Chiefs have their left tackle of the future for the duration of Patrick Mahomes' career. Considering the revolving door at left tackle since Mahomes has been in Kansas City, finally getting him a steady starter at the most important non-quarterback position would be massive for this team moving forward.
Let's hope Jason Kelce is right in the praise he's heaping onto the first-round pick.
