Jason Marshall Jr on IR; Return this Season In Doubt
With the Miami Dolphins needing to create a roster spot for kicker Riley Patterson, someone had to be moved off the roster, and the Dolphins decided to move rookie CB Jason Marshall Jr to injured reserve.
There is no word yet on whether his season is over or if he will return at some point after 4 weeks, when he is eligible to return.
Now, the Dolphins can only have eight players return from IR this season, and they have a few of those spots earmarked for Liam Eichenberg, Jason Sanders, and James Daniels. Would they want to use one of those eight precious spots on Jason Marshall Jr?
That is a big question.
The Dolphins’ secondary has been destroyed by injuries this season, losing Artie Burns, Kader Kohou, and Jason Maitre for the season. Cam Smith is on the NFI list and his return this season seems unlikely.
Storm Duck has missed the last two games, and now Ethan Bonner is out with a hamstring injury as well.
So, Marshall’s injury really comes at the worst possible time.
The Dolphins only dressed four cornerbacks on Monday Night vs the Jets.
I would expect Miami to look to pick up another unsigned cornerback this upcoming week.
Here is Marshall’s scouting report coming out of college
Outside cornerback with good size, athleticism and experience but too much inconsistency on tape. Marshall can disrupt the release from press and ride route turns to stay in position to defend the throw. He falls asleep against play-action and misdirection. Also, he has poor hands when it’s time to flip the field. For his size, he’s a disappointing tackler, especially in run support. The lack of urgency and determination Marshall shows on tape could hurt his stock.
