The San Francisco 49ers opened their first training camp practice on Wednesday, and wide receiver Jauan Jennings was among the players on the field despite ongoing contract uncertainty.

Jennings, entering the final year of the two-year deal he signed in 2024, is seeking a new contract and reportedly plans to pursue a trade if an agreement isn't reached.
On Tuesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that Jennings had not officially requested a trade, while general manager John Lynch expressed confidence that the receiver would participate in practice.
"I won't speak for Jauan, but had a good visit with him," Lynch said. "Anticipate him being out there. You guys know our feelings on J.J. He embodies what we think a Niner is all about—plays the right way.
"We love him, and I think all that stuff—we're not going to get into the contract talks and all that, that takes care of itself, but we love him, and he's here."
Jennings is coming off the best season of his career, hauling in 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. With Deebo Samuel traded to the Washington Commanders and Brandon Aiyuk still rehabbing from a significant knee injury, Jennings is expected to take on a more prominent role in 2025 as one of the team's starting wideouts.
The 49ers open the 2025 regular season on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, September 7.
