Jaxson Dart's rookie campaign showed some flashes but fell short of expectations. He threw for 2,272 yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 starts, posting a 91.7 passer rating.
After interim head coach Mike Kafka took over the team following Brian Daboll’s firing in November, Dart’s performance was inconsistent, with five interceptions, five fumbles and a tendency to take unnecessary hits while scrambling. Given that, Kafka's interim status also raised significant eyebrows about his capability regarding long-term development.
New head coach John Harbaugh recognized the need for a proven play-caller to maximize Dart’s ceiling, so he hired former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
"John Harbaugh worked under Andy Reid in Philadelphia, and Harbaugh mentioned in his opening press conference that he sought advice from Reid, who told him, 'Change can be good,' after his firing in Baltimore," Schefter reported. "Now, Harbaugh turns back to the Andy Reid coaching tree by hiring Matt Nagy as his offensive coordinator in New York."

Nagy's time working with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs' offense made him a sought-after coach in this cycle. During his second stint in Kansas City, the team made it to three straight Super Bowls, winning two titles.
"I love Coach Nagy… He gave me a lot of ideas to be better as a person and as a quarterback," Mahomes said recently. For Dart, having a coordinator who earned Mahomes' endorsement is an absolute blessing.
The Chiefs struggled in 2025, finishing 6–11 and missing the playoffs. Nagy was part of that staff during a difficult season, which could be a concerning point. But according to Reid, Harbaugh has hired the best man possible to help his young signal-caller.
