Jaxson Dart Weighs In on Brian Daboll’s Future Amid Giants Uncertainty

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart offered a noncommittal answer when asked if his play could affect embattled head coach Brian Daboll’s job security.

Dart, the No. 25 pick in April, posted a career-high 72.7% completion percentage with 191 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers in Sunday’s 34-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He added 56 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, though it didn’t keep the Giants from losing their third straight game and dropping to 2-7.

“I can only control what I can control,” Dart told reporters. “I don’t want to look at things that way. I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself in any regard.

“I want to just live in the moment that I have,” Dart continued. “I want to take advantage of the opportunities that I have. As a team, we should be thinking that same way.”

The 22-year-old Dart has completed 62.3% of his passes for 1,175 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions in eight games and six starts. He’s also rushed for 251 yards and five touchdowns, and he’s only turned the ball over once in his last four games.

However, much has changed in the last month. Since moving to 2-4 following a surprising 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on October 9, the Giants have allowed at least 33 points in each of their last three games. Barring a 10-game winning streak, the Giants are almost assured of missing the playoffs for the 13th time in 15 seasons.

Could the New York Giants Fire Brian Daboll?

There have been no credible reports as of Monday, November 3, about the Giants potentially dismissing Daboll or general manager Joe Schoen. A 16-year-old high school junior from New Jersey raised over $2,350 through a GoFundMe campaign to commission a plane to fly a banner before Sunday’s loss.

The message, aimed at co-owner John Mara, read: “MR MARA ENOUGH IS ENOUGH CLEAN HOUSE.”

Daboll is 20-39-1 in four seasons, and the Giants are only 5-21 since the start of last year. Opponents have outscored the Giants by a combined 335 points dating back to 2023.

The Giants have not fired a head coach midseason since dismissing Ben McAdoo after 12 games in 2017. It is unclear who would possibly step in as the interim coach if needed, as neither offensive coordinator Mike Kafka nor defensive coordinator Shane Bowen has been a head coach at any level.

Things won’t get any easier for the Giants, who have four straight games against teams with winning records before their Week 14 bye week. The Giants will travel to Chicago next Sunday to battle Caleb Williams and the Bears before facing the Green Bay Packers (5-2-1), Detroit Lions (5-3), and New England Patriots (7-2) in the following weeks.
