Jayden Daniels makes worrisome admission after preseason struggles

Jayden Daniels didn't need to be on the field for long to sound the alarms in the nation's capital.

The Washington Commanders had their prized but brittle signal-caller on the field briefly in the 17-13 loss to the Detroit Lions.

He attempted only one pass and was sacked during his cameo, raising serious concerns about the state of the new-look offensive line and its ability to keep him out of harm's way.

The Commanders lost star LT Laremy Tunsil, and Daniels admitted it might be a while before the new offensive line meshes.

Commanders offense might struggle early

“I think it’s still a work in progress,” Daniels said postgame. “Like I said, it’s only preseason. We still have practices and everything. By the time we get to Game 1, we’ll have it set in stone.”

The Commanders are also running a new offense after parting ways with Kliff Kingsbury.

Daniels played in only seven games last season due to injury, and he'll have to get his legs back under him while trying to avoid taking unnecessary hits:

“For me, it’s really just trusting those guys up front, trusting the play calling, trusting my reads, getting the ball out, doing what I have to do and playing on time,” he added.

The former LSU star is one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the game, but there are major concerns about his lanky frame and whether he can withstand the physicality of the pros.

Without one of the best blindside protectors in the game by his side, the Commanders might not have much of a choice but to make a move before their prized quarterback takes another unfortunate hit.
