Jayden Daniels is already wildly popular with fans. We're about to find out if his magnetism is also working on players.
During a stellar season that will likely win him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, the Washington Commanders' quarterback produced the best-selling jersey. But will his performance and popularity be powerful enough to attract free agents to come play with him?
Free agency begins in six weeks, and Pro Football Talk believes players will be lining up to sign in Washington because of Daniels. Mike Florio said he heard talk at last October's trading deadline that agents were saying their players wanted to go to Washington, but at that he wasn't buying it.
“I thought that was a load of crap; I thought it was overdone," Florio said this week. ”But, I don’t think it will be overdone during the free agency signing period in March, and I think it will be factor. I think Jayden Daniels’ performance over the course of the year and specifically in the postseason is going to attract guys with options, ‘all things equal, I am going to go play for the Commanders’. We are going to see that in free agency this year.”
Acquiring receiving talent for Daniels to put opposite Terry McLaurin is one of general manager Adam Peters' top priorities this offseason. The 2025 crop is led by Tee Higgins of the Cincinnati Bengals, and also includes veterans Stefon Diggs, Chris Godwin, Kennan Allen, Amari Cooper and DeAndre Hopkins.
Peters first must decide what to do with his own free-agent receiver in Dyami Brown.
