The New York Giants secured their first win of the season on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, but the victory came at a significant cost. Wide receiver Malik Nabers suffered a serious knee injury in the second quarter while attempting to haul in a deep pass from starting quarterback Jaxson Dart, exiting the game with two receptions for 20 yards.
The 22-year-old star landed awkwardly and immediately clutched his right knee before being carted off the field. The setback overshadowed what was otherwise a positive outing for New York and raised major concerns about the remainder of their season.
Initial reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero following the game indicated that Nabers is believed to have suffered a torn right ACL, an injury that could possibly sideline him for the rest of the year pending MRI confirmation.
The injury news sparked concern across the league and drew immediate reactions from fans, players, and analysts, many acknowledging how damaging the loss will be for the Giants’ offense.
Among those to speak out was Jayden Daniels, Nabers’ former LSU teammate and fellow 2024 first-round pick. Daniels posted a message of support on social media:
“u a soldier .. I got you brudda ♥️.”
Nabers quickly re-shared the post to his own story, as the two stars put their relationship on display.
Their connection also goes beyond friendship, as both players were key rookie standouts last season. Nabers set the NFL rookie record for receptions with 109 catches, totaling 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, cementing himself as the Giants’ primary target. Daniels, meanwhile, earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, passing for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and just nine interceptions in 17 games, while leading his team to the NFC Championship game.
Daniels has also battled injury concerns this year, missing the last two games with a knee sprain. Per Rapoport , he is expected to return in Week 5 when his team faces the Green Bay Packers.
The Giants, however, will be forced to adjust immediately to life without Nabers, a player who had quickly become one of the league’s most reliable young receivers. His absence will leave a significant void as the franchise attempts to recover from a slow start and salvage their season.
