When the 2025 season begins, everything will be different for Washington Commanders superstar quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Last fall, no one was expecting anything remotely close to the season the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner had. No one was expecting an NFC Championship game appearance, or even a playoff berth. Daniels wasn't even considered the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, as Caleb Williams entered the year with significantly more hype.
His one job was to learn the ropes of the professional game.
Nonetheless, the sensational LSU product accomplished all of that and more. Now, as he enters Year 2, he'll have to live up to a whole new series of goals -- and head coach Dan Quinn is well aware of that.
During Tuesday's media availability at the start of training camp, Quinn and general manager Adam Peters discussed a variety of topics. Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin's contract holdout was an area of much (rather uncomfortable) discussion. There is also plenty of room for optimism surrounding the Commanders this season, and Daniels is a major reason why.
Quinn was asked what the expectations for Daniels will be this fall, and gave a concise response:
"More growth... there's no limits with him. The skill work, the techniques, the knowledge of the offense... all of those things are going to be enhanced."Dan Quinn
Quinn sounded confident that Daniels can meet all of those goals, emphasizing his work ethic and commitment towards improving. "This is somebody that absolutely is a savage from a work standpoint," the head coach said.
The head coach also noted that out of the many growing pains that second-year players generally have to work through, Daniels — along with cornerback Mike Sainristil — already overcame many of them last season. He praised Washington's star passer for his ability to "self-correct."
Quinn said when asked about the jump from Year 1 to Year 2, pointed out that "Jayden and Mike corrected it in season. That speaks to their rarity." Most, he said, focus on corrections during the offseason. "They self correct faster," Quinn said of Daniels and Sainristil.

All in all, it speaks to the culture Quinn has built in the Commanders' locker room and the maturity of his signal-caller to buy in and keep himself humble. The worst thing any promising young player can do is to fall for their hype, and Washington fans can breathe a major sigh of relief knowing this won't be a problem with Daniels.
There's still a lot of uncertainty regarding how things will look for the Commanders when the season kicks off in just over a month. But one thing is for certain: they'll have one of the hungriest quarterbacks in the league, led by the best motivator he could ever ask for.
