Jayden Daniels to be educated on NFL gambling policy after bet with Malik Nabers

Although it was likely made in the name of lighthearted fun, the $10,000 wager Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels made with New York Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers may have caught the attention of the NFL, and not in a good way.

The two 2024 top-six draft picks made a bet with one another about who will win Offensive Rookie of the Year, which may have violated the NFL’s gambling policy.

Although the league hasn’t publicly commented on the wager between Daniels and Nabers, who were teammates at LSU last season, it is aware of the situation and plans to address it — at least with Daniels — this week, according to Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske of the Washington Post.

“Commanders first-round draft pick Jayden Daniels will be educated on the NFL’s sports gambling policy this week at the team’s rookie minicamp, a person with knowledge of the matter said,” Jhabvala and Maske wrote.

It's not known if either player will face any disciplinary action from the league.

Although the rookie duo didn’t bet on any specific NFL games, the spirit of their wager appears to violate Section 2 the NFL’s gambling policy, which states:

“All NFL Personnel are prohibited from placing, soliciting, or facilitating any bet, whether directly or through a third party, on any NFL game, practice or other event (e.g., Draft or Combine). This includes betting on game outcome, statistics, score, performance of any individual participant, ‘futures’, or any other kind of ‘proposition bet’ in any way related to the NFL (regardless of whether such bet involves actual on-field play) (e.g., prop bets related to Gatorade color, pre- or post-game events, halftime show, off-field player conduct or outcomes, etc.)”

Per BetMGM, Daniels has the second-best odds to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+600) behind Chicago’s Caleb Williams, while Nabers in fifth (+1100). Arizona’s Marvin Harrison Jr. (+650) is third and Minnesota’s J.J. McCarthy (+900) is fourth.
