We finally got to see the Washington Commanders face a team with a different logo today at a joint practice with the New England Patriots, so we have to react.
I wasn't at the practice today, and of course, no recording was allowed, so we had to follow along on social media with the latest plays and highlights from practice by both teams.
Reporters were saying that left tackle Laremy Tunsil was a stone wall at practice today, and he didn't let anything get by him. He was pushing guys out of plays and even carried a Patriots LB through the block all the way to the stands, according to JP Finlay . Tunsil and rookie Josh Conerly Jr. have been glued to the hip since training camp started, and the two looked in sync today.
I have to let DC know that Laremy Tunsil is up here at joint practices mandhandling folks. He’s a stone wall. The youngster Josh Conerly Jr is having a day as well. #NFL #RaiseHail

Local media watching the practice reported that Patriots WR "Pop" Douglas was having a field day in drills against the Commanders' defense and Mike Sainristil for a good bit of practice. Sainristil got his lick back, though, when it mattered the most with an interception off a deflected pass from Drake Maye to Douglas in a two-minute drill. Gotta love seeing him bounce back in a big situation.
Drake Maye picked off to end a red zone period. Tried to hit Pop Douglas over the middle but Bobby Wagner got a hand on it, and knocked it up in the air for Mike Sainristil to intercept it.

These joint practices always get scrappy, especially when it's the first time the team faces off against someone not on the same team, and there were a couple of skirmishes today. Tunsil pushing the LB over to the stands almost caused a fight, but soon after that, Marshon Lattimore got chippy with WR Kayshon Boutte.
The biggest fight of the day came after Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson picked up a blitzing defender from Washington, and Patriots HC Mike Vrabel had to break it up, causing himself to get cut on his face and start to bleed.
Mike Vrabel pulled out from the bottom of a huge pile of players, and he’s now bleeding from his right cheek.

Per @ByChrisMason, Vrabel jumped in after TreVeyon Henderson and a Washington defender went to the ground in blitz pickup and a scrum ensued. Will Campbell jumped in.
There's no surprise that Jayden Daniels was the best player on the field at practice, and even the Patriots media had to acknowledge how good he looked. Daniels had to flex in the first practice against another team, and his weapons benefited from it as well.
Jayden Daniels is absolutely surgical in 11 on 11. Never misses a read

He found Ertz on a handful of plays during drills and also kept the connection strong with Deebo Samuel. He found Samuel on a touchdown where he took the ball off the Patriots DB's helmet. This connection has been strong since the two hit the field together.
⚡️ In red zone 7x7, Deebo Samuel ripped a TD off Patriots CB Marcus Jones’ helmet for a toe-touch TD on the left sideline. Jayden Daniels on the throw. ⚡️#Commanders

Of course, we shouldn't hold too much weight with everything we saw at practice today, but it's nice to see the team going into the next phase of the offseason against another team. The preseason game against the Patriots on Friday night will tell us a lot more about the depth of the team, as a lot of the starters, if not all, are projected not to play.
