Jerry Jones is the president, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, who has owned the rights to the Cowboys since buying them from Bum Bright in 1989. Although Jones saw success in the 1990s with three Super Bowl championships, the 2000s have not been as kind to the 83-year-old.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is doing all he can to bring Dallas back to Super Bowl form, as he is seventh in the NFL with 1,065 passing yards, tied for seventh with eight touchdowns and is third with an 83.4 QBR. Prescott has only thrown one interception on the season, and his top target has been wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

Lamb is first in the NFL with 37 receptions and 498 receiving yards, along with being tied for third with four touchdown receptions. With an offense that includes running back Javonte Williams and All-Pro wide receiver George Pickens, Dallas’ high-powered offense doesn’t seem to be slowing down. One player who could provide a boost to the offense is injured guard Tyler Smith. On Wednesday, Jones provided an update on the status of Smith.

On the Dallas-Fort Worth sports radio station 105.3 The Fan, Jones revealed that he is unsure if Smith will be available for Thursday night’s game against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith’s practice window opened on Monday, and the All-Pro guard was available in a limited capacity.

Smith has missed the entire 2026 NFL regular season so far due to a thumb injury sustained during a joint practice with the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 18. He attempted to play through the pain but opted to undergo surgery before the start of the season. The Pro Bowler has started in all 63 games he has appeared in with Dallas.

“Jerry Jones tells @1053thefan that he is not sure Tyler Smith will play Thursday vs. Tampa Bay after having his practice window opened Monday,” Todd Archer wrote on X.

Dallas will host Tampa Bay at AT&T Stadium on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. ET, with coverage on Amazon Prime Video.
