Jerry Jones calls Cowboys’ Monday Night Football win ‘disjointed’ and ‘sloppy’

The Dallas Cowboys improved to 4-2 on the season after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers, 20-17, in Week 6 Monday — albeit in sloppy fashion.

Sloppy just so happened to be one of the words team owner Jerry Jones used to describe the game between the two teams, who combined, committed 20 penalties for 164 yards.

“I felt it was as disjointed or sloppy a game as — maybe that’s a strong word — for both sides,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas Tuesday. “I really thought the game was, relatively speaking statistically, was even. … Penalties evened out. The stats were real even on the game… Hard fought game, they’re a good team.”

Cowboys grind out victory over Chargers

In a game the Cowboys had to have to avoid heading into the bye week on a two-game losing streak, quarterback Dak Prescott had his best game of the season. The much-maligned Prescott completed 21-of-30 passes for 272 yards and one touchdown to go along with 40 yards on seven carries and a score. While running back Tony Pollard and receiver CeeDee Lamb remained heavily involved in the offense, Prescott did something he failed to do the five games prior: Get Brandin Cooks the ball.

The veteran wideout, whom Dallas acquired from the Houston Texans this offseason, hauled in four receptions for 36 yards and a two-yard score to give the Cowboys a 17-10 lead in the fourth quarter.

“It was a great throw and a throw also that [Prescott] put trust in me to go out there and go make,” Cooks said after the game. “I’m just thankful for the opportunity and coming up with the big play to show he can continue to trust me.”

When the Cowboys return from their bye week, the Los Angeles Rams will be awaiting them at Jerry World in Week 8. Jones admitted there’s a ton of room for improvement until then.

“I think we do have serious room for improvement — we have that,” Jones said. “We’re not yet the team we can be. The major limiting factor for our team to evolve and get better will be availability of players we’re counting on. Injury, principally, is the problem. But if we can stay healthy, we will evolve and get better.

“We have outstanding talent.”
