Jerry Jones got ahead of the curve on Monday's press conference introducing Brian Schottenheimer as the Dallas Cowboys' tenth head coach by providing an answer to a question that at least one reporter was thinking of asking before it ended:

Head coach Brian Schottenheimer will call plays on offense after being underneath Mike McCarthy the last couple of seasons.

"Let me say this, we wanted Brian calling plays, we cherish his relationship with our players," Jones said.  We want him to call the plays, (...) I believe if he doesn't call the plays, he'd probably not be with the Cowboys."

Jones' comments confirm fans' suspicions following reports that it was "imperative" for Schottenheimer to call plays in his next job, wherever he landed. With him unexpectedly rising as a head coach candidate for Dallas, there were questions about whether or not that would remain the case.

Schottenheimer, whose offense with the Seattle Seahawks emphasized running the football, didn't reveal much about what his plans are for the Cowboys offense under his command, but he did point out some things he'd want to do in an effort to modernize the offense.

"I'm a big believer in cut splits, I'm a big believer in shifts and motions to distort things, we're going to do a great job in marrying our runs and our passes and make those look the same," Schottenheimer said. "There's a Tempo element that we're excited to mix in."

That being said, the new Cowboys head coach said the biggest priority was focusing on what the players on the roster do well. Going into his debut season as HC of an NFL team, Schottenheimer will count with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and an offensive line with some key pieces in place, particularly left guard Tyler Smith.

We'll have to wait for the details but for now expect a heavy dose of running the football.
